The past week of my life has been filled with so much excitement!!! My 29th birthday was on April 3 and Adam had me a birthday party a week later at Above, the rooftop bar at the Redmont Hotel downtown. Adam had been making fun of me all week because I went and bought a dress for the party, got a spray tan and made an appointment to have my make up done. I wanted to look GOOD for my party!!! On Saturday, Shannon and I went to have pedicures and manicures. While we were there, Shannon asked me if I thought Adam might propose that night. I said definitely not because he has always said he would never do it on a holiday or birthday. So, instead of getting it in my mind that he would and then just be disappointed when he didn't, I just didn't think about it anymore.
That night, Adam took me to eat at PF Changs and then we went to the hotel to put our stuff in the room we got for the night. Adam said he had my present there and had hinted around the week before that it was this vacuum cleaner I have been wanting. Yeah, I know. Anyways, he pulls this bag out and tells me to sit on the end of the bed. I start going through the tissue paper in the bag and there's 3 roses, each having a little tag and a little something on them. The last one had a string attached to a card that had move the bag written in it. I was a little confused and Adam had to repeat "move the bag!" So, I moved the bag and there he was with my ring!!! I was so excited that he said I tried to grab the ring out of his hand. I was shocked and just kept looking at it, saying that it was surreal! You think about the day you'll get engaged for a long time and when it happens, it's so hard to actually grasp the idea that it's happening. I grabbed my phone to text my mom and he said don't tell anyone that's here tonight. Just see if they notice. What?!??!?! Are you kidding me?? Anyone who knows me, knows if I am excited that I'm not going to keep it a secret!!! My mom texts me back and says that she was wondering when he was going to do it. We leave the room and get on the elevator with a bunch of our friends and I'm just dying to tell them!! We get off the elevator and start walking onto the outdoor patio and I turn around and find my friend Amy and say, LOOK!!! I shoved my hand into her face and we both just start screaming. The whole night was so much fun but it is such a blur because I was in total shock!
I'm super excited and cannot wait to marry Adam! Now, comes all the fun stuff and I'm on a budget. I wish that some rich family member would donate $50,000 so I don't have to worry about anything but I know that won't happen. So, until someone donates to my wedding fund I'll be on the hunt for budget friendly wedding venues!!!
I also got a new job as a Nurse Practitioner with the neurology department at Children's. I'm so excited!! I start on April 26th and will be training for several months before I'm on my own. They are trying to remodel the neurology department and aren't quite sure what they are going to have me doing just yet. For now, the plans are for me to orient in the seizure monitoring unit for a few months and then transition into the clinics seeing patients. This was something that I had been praying for - to be an inpatient and outpatient practitioner. I was going to miss the inpatient part because at first this position was only outpatient. So, I went on several "interviews" with the department - of which I already knew all the doctors and they all knew me. It was really just to see if I had any questions and to tell me their own visions for the new plans. Now, I am cleaning out the scrubs from my closet and buying new work clothes!
